
Six of the tracks were live recordings without overdubs, of which the three tracks originated from the unannounced concert at the top of the Apple building, while the remaining three were recorded in one recording in the studio.įive of the other tracks were now produced by Spector with overdubs and other features, but still based on the January recordings, and finally, Across the Universe was based on a recording back from 1968.

The album, which was finally released with more than a year’s delay, became a more complex case. In the spring of 1970, however, producer Phil Spector gained access to the bands, and he rearranged and reproduced some of the music, resulting in the album being released. The album was released on May 8, 1970, but much of the material was recorded as early as January 1969, before the recording of Abbey Road, but as members were generally dissatisfied with the music, it was initially shelved.
